Gemini 4 Argon: What’s New and How to Get It
Google’s Gemini 4 Argon is now in the Gemini app. What it does better, the new Tasks mode, benchmark claims, which Google AI plan you need and API pricing.

On this page
Gemini 4 Argon is Google's new flagship AI model and the first of the Gemini 4 generation. After a cautious launch to cybersecurity partners, it reached the Gemini app on 13 October 2026 together with a new Tasks mode that keeps working on jobs while you are away from your computer.
Here's what's new, how it compares with GPT-6 and Claude, and exactly which plan you need. Facts are from Google's statements as reported by the sources at the end, checked on 2 November 2026.
The short version
Argon is available to Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) and Google AI Ultra (from $99.99/month) subscribers in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search. It is not on the free plan. It answers more directly, handles long multi-step jobs better and powers the new Tasks mode.

What's new in Gemini 4 Argon
More direct answers
Google says Argon answers more directly with less hedging, repeats itself only when needed and shares progress more often on long jobs. In practice that means shorter, more decisive replies.
Tasks mode: Gemini keeps working without you
The headline feature is Tasks. Instead of a normal chat, you hand Gemini a job and it keeps working after you leave your computer. It can use more than 40 connected apps, including Instacart for groceries and OpenTable for restaurant bookings, with Adobe and Shopify for business users.
Tasks is available to Pro and Ultra subscribers in selected countries for now, and Google says Argon is still rolling out to all Pro subscribers.
Better at coding
Google highlights major coding improvements. Ultra subscribers on a Mac also get the Antigravity agentic coding interface inside the Gemini app. (Developers: see what changed for Antigravity's free tier on 2 November.)
How does Argon compare with GPT-6 and Claude?
Google's own chart for DeepSWE v1.1, a long software-engineering benchmark, shows Argon at 77.9%, ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 at 74.2% and about a tenth of a point ahead of GPT-6 Astra. But Reuters notes Argon trails on two of the four coding benchmarks Google published, and all of these results are self-reported.
